Poem Inspired by The Florida Project (2017)
The eyes of a little girl, are naturally saturated
Our dark, gloomy world, perceived brighter
Store bought Ice cream tastes far sweeter
Waves in the ocean, seem to reach the sky
As time flies, days blur into memories
Growing taller is still exciting, laced with pride.
Though looking back on these days,
Makes your stomach turn
The little girl, so full of hopes and dreams
Now pushed to the back of your mindspace
Stuck in a world, full of neverending summers
Existing solely through foggy old photos.
Still, you wonder why she wished time away
Rushing to grow out of her soft frilly dresses
But deep down, you know the truth.
She saw a woman, who was hurting so bad,
And loved her regardless of her flaws
Wanting someday, to grow up to be just like her
For a girl sees her mother, through a distorted lens.

The same outline can't apply to everyone
It’s nice at first, to be asked about your week
But after a while, the questions become predictable
And the clock ticks louder
Counting down the seconds,
Till your session time is up.
When you’re admitted into rehab,
You are put on a schedule
Expected to get better, day by day
Its strange, the uniformity of it all
Given the state, of one beginning recovery
Most aren’t there because they want to get better,
But because they have to.
Soon, it all starts to feel like a joke
Watching others pass you, while some fall behind.
So you blame yourself, as it seems the only option
Falling deeper into a hole of lunacy and self pity
Because you did this, and it's never the system's fault.

Poem Inspired by Whiplash (2014)
To be great
Is to give up everything good in your life
You need to prioritize what really matters
To push yourself until you physically can’t
You know your boundaries, so break them
To raise your standards as you get better
You should never be at rest, keep improving
To never stop comparing yourself to others
Your aren't alone, there is always competition
To constantly criticize your performance
You are always making mistakes, fix them.
To be great
Is to never accept greatness
Because acceptance is failure
The fight to be the best
Is a never ending battle
If you can’t live by that
You will never be great.
