Starry Eyes by Kathleen Werth

I look to you and see no future

Ain't that a shame

I smash my heart onto the floor

And I use god's name in vain

I'm quick to trust my gut

And I'm quick to walk away

But your starry eyes are making me stay

I'll wait for you on the corner

I'll tie my shoes for the fifth time

Twiddle my fingers for another minute

Think up a clever rhyme

Like “I'm not in too deep”

“I am quite all right”

But they can see right past me

They see me looking at your starry eyes

So leave me while you can

Together we make nothing but trouble

Or take mе as I am

If I'm bound to be your lover

I love who I am whеn I'm with you

Can't stand being alone

So starry-eyed boy won't you come on home

It's beautiful

Cause it is temporary

Makes it glisten in my mind

Cause I have my "forevers"

And "forevers" can be nice

But somewhere between the fragility of a promise of today

And the vastness of eternity and all it has to say

We mixed like pretty colors,

we swirled like Saturn's rings

A perfect fucking tragedy

Those starry eyes will bring

I love you today

And I'll love you tomorrow

But I just can't promise forever

Or I'd be risking those starry eyes of sorrow

So leave me while you can

Together we make nothing but trouble

Or take me as I am

If I'm bound to be your lover

I love who I am when I'm with you Can't stand being alone

So starry-eyed boy won’t you come on home
